Sudō Kumoei

Sudō Kumoei
Singer

Born in Kuroishi, Aomori Prefecture.
In 1959, she became an apprentice to Narita Unchiku, a master of Tsugaru folk songs. In 1965, she won first place in Japan for singing "Tsugaru Aiya Bushi" at a national competition hosted by the Japanese Folk Song Association. She also received the Minister of Education Award. From 1968 to 1975, she performed at the Labor Music Association's national concerts with Takahashi Chikuzan. In 1975, she moved her base of operations from Aomori to Kobe with her husband, Takahashi Eizan. She continues to work hard to nurture the next generation of Tsugaru folk singers.
